One toddler on a trip is a handful. Try four toddlers on a trip all at once and mostly every day. My mother was a master at the art of gathering all my sisters up and getting them firmly fixed and loaded into the, you guessed it, Mini Van. My first sister was born when I was seven. Then one year later my next sister and a year after that, twins!
What I said. It shouldn't be the actual final outcome that the actual about Pen. You check this out article for information on that want to know is Pen.About Pen
It was not always easy but after a while she learned to system and made it look like we were a well oiled machine of teamwork. It was an artful performance.(Most days!) Everything was on her checklist and she had that down to a science checklist. Whenever I was at school I not only got to bear witness, I also got the chance to take part in the orchestrated madness.
Life is funny sometimes, the things we end up remembering. One thing I will never forget was that all too important checklist book. Its been 25 years, the second twin is getting married one month from the time of this writing. And well, I can still see that checklist book in my mind. The checklist was a black leather bound book with its own pen and that book was uber important.
After forgetting things and having to drive back home after getting half way to the destination, my Mom decided on the checklist. Any time we would discover something that would be useful she would always say; "Write it in the book." It was a binder with several sections and this is highly recommended.
I know one really big tip, even with one toddler there is a lot to keep in mind so get yourself one of these books. This book is a Huge tool that will be with youfor a long time so try to make this a good quality investment. In other words; you get what you pay for and this book will be lugged around a lot so you need something that will last.
Anyway, I intend on sharing this checklist with you. If there is not at least one thing in here to help make taking toddlers on a trip to little easier then you must have already mastered your own system. If that is the case keep it. Feel free to add to it but only change it if your routine changes.
One thing before we get into the checklist is a small tip that I found pretty surprising, but it really does work well.
Try to involve your child in the packing process. It will give them something to be responsible for and teach them so much in the way of their autonomy and development. Plus, they really do enjoy helping. It makes them feel important. It builds their self esteem and confidence. Give them a little bag or back pack and nominated something for them to gather. Even a preschooler can collect, (count &) clothes and stuffed animals.
1. We had a cooler for the cold teething toys. These are toys that have water in them and you can keep them frosted and icy. The cold helps with the pain of teething. One of my sisters ended up having a hard time with this and these toys helped out a lot. But we also kept snacks and juices in the cooler. Which brings us to number two.
2. You know we brought a big bag of Cheerio's on every trip. To be honest we were never without it. What is meant by this is basically whenever you are goingto be in a car with young children always bring snacks. They can get hungry and this can cause them to get cranky. So always keep good healthy snacks on hand.
3. They need entertainment. Some suggest wrapping up old toys in boxes and giving it to them on the start of the trip. This works great. Little children love to open and unwrap things. This always keeps them busy and occupied for the beginning of the trip which mostly sets the mood of good order.
4. Baby wipes, Napkins, paper towels as well as regular towels for spills and messes. These all went into the diaper bag with diapers and all sorts of things that go along with it. Bottles, sippy cups, pacifiers and the like.
5. These days there are DVD players in theMini-vans. Its always good to bring along your low-tech entertainment too. Many parents claim their favorite kids flick is always engrossing. This will also help with those especially long trips.
6. Favorite pillows, Blankets, pajamas, soft-clothing and stuffed animals. Extra Shoes and outfits for those just in case moments.
7. Books and puzzles are ideal. You are going to need all different kinds of entertainment. It is always better safe than sorry. You would be surprised at what will calm a crying child down. Sometimes its the least likely thing and its always better to have it and not need it than the other way around.
8. A well stocked first aid kit. This should be stocked in your car at all times. And anymedications or other requirements that are more than likely going to be in the duffel bag.
9. Your checklist and your book of checklists. You certainly do not want to leave home without it.
10. Keep a cell phone and charger for any of those times you might be in need of assistance.
Its always a good idea to try and write down your itinerary for the day the night before or if you have a little time in the morning beforehand. It can do wonders for keeping everything in order. These are all good time saving tips to help ease the organization your daily plans.
